Comfort or happiness?
Life is always pushing us to new heights and growth opportunities.
Looking back, every achievement and failure has made me who I am and guided me to where I need to be. I do not view failures as something negative in my life. If something does not work, it is a redirection for what is meant to be.
I believe that everything and everyone who is meant to be a part of your life will be there, no matter what the current circumstances are in your life.
During my spiritual journey, I have learned that taking risks allows you to create new opportunities.
A few nights ago, I discovered a TikTok video discussing whether or not you wanted to be “comfortable or happy”.
“I’d rather take the risk and be uncomfortable right now so I can find happiness later.”
I thought this was interesting because I never thought of these as two separate things. In fact, I would argue that I want to be content rather than happy. Just like sadness or anger, happiness is fluid and is based on our preferences of what we like and do not like. Author Michael Singer discusses this in his books The Untethered Soul and Living Untethered.
Being content means you are centered and at peace. I am not saying you should not feel happy, sad, angry, or any emotions. Like Singer says in his books it is about not latching onto any one emotion. Once we do that, we no longer live in the present moment, but in the past. Experience those emotions, just do not cling to them. Let them go, good or bad.
In the context of the video, I think it comes more from playing it safe or going into the unknown and taking a chance. Do you play it safe just to be comfortable? Or do you challenge yourself to take that risk that may bring you everything you could ever want?
I know I will forever take a risk or a challenge over the comfortable. I have always made a promise to myself to always continue growing and learning.
Would you prefer to be comfortable or happy?
