No more comments
Since I moved my website off Wordpress, I have been debating whether or not to integrate comments into my website for notes and posts.
There are arguments for both sides for having comments. First, I have to look at the goal of having comments on my site.
Comments are meant to stir discussion, engagement and interaction. Are comment sections on blog posts creating this type of engagement or response. Mostly no. Some yes, but mostly no.
Many of the comments offer little in return for the commenter. Unlike social media, the person has to make a conscious effort to go back to the site or get an email letting them know about a response. There is too much friction and most likely you are not coming back.
It is much easier especially if you have a blog to expand and respond on your own site. This gives you some investment and the ability to share your perspective. A win-win.
I am not totally against comments but I am feeling it is a much better web experience at the moment to leave them off. Emailing and referencing posts are a great way to build connections around content. It also makes it more personal and feeling less like you are posting into the void.
I would love to hear your thoughts about this post. Send me a message.
Reasons why I do not have a comment section.
