Went up to visit Alexandra's family in Plattsburgh. This is a shot up Margaret Street from Norma J's. It brings back memories from when I went to college there.

Replied to Surgeon General: Why I’m Calling for a Warning Label on Social Media Platforms by The New York Times:

While warning labels on social media platforms are a great first step in alerting the public and parents about the dangers and addictive qualities of social networks, we need more from our leaders. The United States is notoriously behind the curve of other developed countries when it comes to protections not only online but across various industries and sectors.

While I do not believe this will solve the problem 100%, it will help raise awareness to those that may not be aware if it is implemented. Every little bit helps and it is one of the reasons why I am working on limiting my time on these social networking sites. My goal is to continue to reduce my use now that I am no longer posting on them.

I am not saying to never use these platforms or apps. I do think they can be beneficial in helping people connect with others in ways they can never before. It should compliment our existing lives, just like everything else. Everything in moderation.

Mixed feelings about the features Apple announced at WWDC 2024. On the surface, the AI features look more privacy-focused than other platforms. The other updates seem minimal and more of minor updates here or there.

Replied to We can have a different web by Molly White:

I could not agree more. Everything for the web we long for is right at our fingertips. Nothing has changed and we can create the web that we want.

If we want a more simplified web experience we can have it. Personally, I want a simpler web -- fewer algorithms, ads, and subscriptions and more connection and personalization. I am not going to sit and complain about it, I am going to build it and connect with like-minded individuals.

Replied to Why blog anonymously by Frills:

I never really thought about blogging or writing anonymously. I do not mind having my name tied to the content I am blogging or writing about. The internet is never as private as you think and I post intentionally.

Frills makes a good point that you may not want your information to be easily tied to you due to privacy and personal safety concerns, name changes, and biases. Totally understand that.

I am used to having my content out there that is connected to my name. I actually landed my first journalism job due to a blog post I made. Most of the content I had to publish for work had to have my name on it. In the end, it's all about personal preference and should not change how people feel about your work.

I forgot how amazing the Flighty app is for tracking air travel. While it is only available for Apple devices, I highly recommend!

Not an ad, just recommending an amazing app.

Replied to RSS readers are a productivity hack by Dave Smyth:

I love this idea. I am currently updating the category and organization of the content on my website to make it easier to follow.

As I continue to move away from social media, I recognize that what makes social media so hard to get rid of is how easy it is to connect with multiple viewpoints at once. Unless you have a feed reader with multiple websites, you will not be able to accomplish the same thing and will have to visit each website to get the latest updates. This is time-consuming and takes more effort than simply scrolling on a social media site.
