Forgiveness can bring freedom
Forgiveness can be one of the hardest things to do.
During my journey, I have realized that sometimes justice is forgiving. When someone wrongs me, it is essential to slow down and take some time to absorb whatever happened. From a calmer state of being, you can then choose the right response to the situation. Is this easy to do in the moment? Sometimes yes and oftentimes no.
To forgive without attachments or expectations truly is freedom. You are letting go of the negative feelings and emotions associated with a particular situation. This may take some time depending on the circumstance.
I am not saying you have to forget what happened, but holding onto these situations that bring us unhappiness and discontent is only hurting yourself. We can forgive and let go while understanding and recognizing what someone did was hurtful and painful. To lean into that and realize that what we are feeling and experiencing is valid, but we also deserve not to let whatever situation or experience define our future.
Forgiveness does not necessarily mean things go back to normal. It is a place where we can let go of the anger, disappointment, sadness, and other negative emotions that are associated with a situation.
Journaling helps me express both positive and negative emotions. It helps clear the energy that otherwise may have been blocked from me holding onto those memories.
Never underestimate the power of forgiveness. It is a form of justice in its highest form because it allows you to recognize the painful situation for what it was while giving yourself the freedom to move and live your life unburdened by the past.
