The 'journey' is not linear
I am constantly reminded that the “journey” through life is not linear.
You do not get to the perceived end and that is it. This reminder hit me hard over the past few days.
Life will sometimes test you and force you to reflect on your life. Where you are. What your plans may be. It is part of the never-ending journey.
I think that is part of it. Understanding that the path you are on is ever evolving and to focus less on the outcome and instead on the stories that contribute to your life.
Sometimes we need a seismic event to take place to give us a new perspective and a better understanding of our situation. Other times it is a subtle nudge to do something new, move, or change something in our lives.
Whatever happens, it is easy to get caught up in the drama of the actual event. Zooming in so much that you cannot see the bigger picture. I am finding it is easy to do with the subtle nudges but less so with the more seismic events.
I always believe that awareness is always the first step in recognizing and bringing about the changes you want in your life. Many of us go about our lives on autopilot and just doing things we have always done.
It all comes down to trust. Trust in something bigger than yourself. It is those moments when we get knocked off the path that we need to slow down, recognize it and get back on.
The journey is not accomplishing something and never regressing back into old patterns or old thinking. It is easy to fool ourselves and trap ourselves into thinking I conquered this there is no way I am going back.
In theory, yes you have mastered that skill but you have to be proactive and be aware of when you may be slipping into old patterns. Use those lessons from prior experiences to continue to grow and evolve into the person you are meant to be.
This is my moment of realizing I got off the path a bit. A reminder to use the tools that I have been learning throughout my life. The journey is not about perfection but using life experiences to continue to grow as a person.
