Accessibility Statement

Conformance status

This website is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, and applies selected Level AAA principles beyond the AA minimum — such as enhanced 7:1 color contrast. These guidelines define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities across the web.

This site also aligns with:

• EN 301 549 — the European standard for ICT accessibility (cited in the Official Journal as a harmonized standard under the Web Accessibility Directive 2016/2102)
• European Accessibility Act (EAA) — Directive (EU) 2019/882, enforceable since June 2025
• Dutch Implementation Act — the Netherlands' transposition of the EAA into sectoral law

A note on versions: EN 301 549 currently incorporates WCAG 2.1 AA. I audit to WCAG 2.2 AA — the current W3C recommendation — to stay ahead of the update.

This status is evaluated using WCAG-EM (Website Accessibility Conformance Evaluation Methodology 1.0), which combines continuous automated monitoring with manual testing using assistive technology — keyboard navigation and screen readers. The grade above updates automatically from the most recent evaluation. Because WCAG conformance is assessed per success criterion and known exceptions are documented under “Non-accessible content” below, the site is reported as partially compliant rather than claiming full conformance.

Accessibility of this website relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

Non-accessible content

Automated monitoring and manual review currently flag a small amount of content. Each remaining item is a deliberate teaching example, a demonstration/sample page, or content supplied by a third party — none prevents anyone from using the site. In-scope issues are corrected on a rolling basis, and this list is reviewed after every change.

a) Non-compliance with the accessibility requirements

• Date-picker demonstration. A blog article on broken date pickers deliberately embeds an inaccessible component to illustrate its argument. It is captioned as a bad example and is not a functional control on this site.
• Sample audit/report pages. A few demonstration report pages (used to illustrate what a deliverable looks like) have minor landmark-structure gaps. They are illustrative templates rather than core pages of this site and are being brought in line.

b) Disproportionate burden

• None claimed. This site does not rely on the disproportionate-burden exemption.

c) Content outside the scope of the legislation

• Newsletter sign-up and checkout: embedded from a third-party provider (MailerLite). Its internal markup — including a heading-order and a button-contrast flag — is controlled by the provider.
• Appointment scheduling (Connect page): embedded from Cal.com.
• Interactive quiz (accessibility-quiz page): embedded from Lumi. I supply an accessible frame title; the quiz’s internal behaviour is maintained by the provider.

Decorative and incidental text is exempt from the contrast requirement under WCAG 1.4.3, but I hold it to AA where practical. Live, per-page results appear in the dashboard above.

Assessment approach

Joe Gullo Digital assesses the accessibility of this website using the following methods:

• Self-evaluation using axe DevTools, WAVE, and Lighthouse
• Manual keyboard navigation testing
• Screen reader testing with NVDA and VoiceOver
• Automated continuous monitoring via my accessibility review system
• Color contrast verified against the enhanced 7:1 ratio — an AAA principle applied beyond the AA 4.5:1 minimum
